“The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”

Anchored in this scripture, this fourth piece in the Warfare series captures the death of the former self and the beginning of inner oneness, the moment the divided soul begins to unify in Christ.

Two figures, rendered in cold monochrome blue, stand pressed together: the old self behind, the new in front. The darkened figure, head bowed and features dissolving into a blurred, shadowy blue, represents the fading identity, a self losing its power, its voice, its dominion. She appears almost ghostlike, a remnant of who she used to be, surrendering to the inevitable end of her rule.

Before her stands the illuminated self, detailed and defined, her head lifted. Her clarity is evidence of a Father who formed her with intention, her Dad who knows the number of hairs on her head, who called her into being with purpose and care. Her body leans into the dark one, not as comfort but as testimony that the new emerges from the old, but is no longer bound to it.

The cold blue palette reflects this transitional state, the chill of death giving way to the stillness before rebirth. This blue is neither the darkness of the beginning nor the golden radiance of the final transformation, but the middle place where separation occurs and identity begins to take shape.

This work marks the turning point of the series, the war within breaks, and the old self releases its last breath. Here, she becomes one within herself — one in Christ — preparing for the final artwork where she will stand alone, at peace, crowned in gold, reborn and whole.
